Megan here, staring out the window at the first sun I think I’ve seen in three months. What is up with this year so far? And what is up with me? Talking about the weather? I must be totally sapped of inspiration.
Just kidding! Obviously I’m not sapped of anything. I’m about to have a three day weekend, baby, as are you. Speaking of – in case you skimmed Dan’s email, if you’re ordering from Natty Boy and you don’t live in Central London, today until 2.30 p.m. is your last chance to get your bottles before Easter. Don’t come crying to me if you missed the deadline. If you live in London, nothing to worry about – the good folks at Packfleet are driving as normal. If you’re planning on coming to Dan’s this weekend, make it Friday or Saturday – we’re closed Sunday and Monday so I can get some sleep. Or to celebrate Jesus, or whatever. Also still got a few ticks left for wine and cheese on April 17th. It’s a combo as old as time, except, coz it’s us, we’re doing it elite-style. Don’t miss it.
All this sunny weather (eight hours of it so far, and counting) has got me thinking about summer. Like a true British person, the second the clouds go away I’m in the garden in shorts and a T-shirt, pretending I’m in the French Riviera. Here are some bottles that go great with that.
For me, sun = rosé. Call me basic, I don’t care. I can be basic and still be right. This guy from Domaine Tempier is, in Dan’s words, one of the best wines in the world. For £37.95?! Someone tell Burgundy they’ve got competition.
Like your rosé grown on a volcano? Sure you do. Try this one from master of the mountain Frank Cornelissen. It’ll go great with the far-too-early-in-the-season BBQ you’re probably planning for this weekend.
Last up is this guy, which I had the pleasure of tasting a few weeks ago when summer was just a pipe dream. Everything Ponce makes is legit incredible, and this rosé is no exception. I didn’t even know you could make rosé from Bobal? Though to be fair, the list of things I don’t know is impressively long. Either way, like all things Ponce, it’s an absolute steal for what it is. Take it down to a canal, or a park, or somewhere green, and give it the respect it deserves.
