Hope you weren't meant to catch a train!
Taking a bit of time off meself, so no orders will be processed over the weekend. Any wine ordered after 3pm on Friday (tomorrow) won't arrive until Wednesday at the earliest. Which may or may not make this the opportune time to stock up....
Fortunately I've been paying close attention to the sub £25 area, a bit of a sweet spot at the moment if you want to drink interesting wines without re-mortgaging. There's been a plethora of adds in recent times, including scintillating northern Italian whites and fizz from La Biancara and Casa Belfi, Progressive Spanish Mid-Weight gems from Vina Zorzal and Luis Perez, a re-stock of Chasing Rabbits Grenache and much, much more. Click here to be taken to the 350+ things that are priced under £25, a section that should be a saved browser tab IMHO. Happy Hunting.
Onto Ham Wine. Domaine Philippe Jambon! Yum! This is the négoce (meaning purchased fruit) gear, a response to a couple of horrendous vintages impacted by frost, hail, disease etc. where they lost the majority of estate fruit. It helps to be a good bloke and well liked in times like these. Philippe and wife Catherine source the fruit from like-minded friends in Saint-Amour (Lortous) and the Southern Rhone (Tardieu) for these bottlings. Farming is as per, winemaking is as gentle as. Expressions that are full of life, and effortless to make disappear. They cry out for splashing about, a huge table, maybe even some friends. Limited stocks available here.
Rather be in Tuscany? A nice thought. Why not bring it home? A couple of freshies from Salcheto just landed, so it's not such an obtuse thought. I've been selling/drinking these wines for as long as I can remember, always taken by the value on offer, particularly apparent now as most other producers from this most esteemed of regions creep things up, regardless of quality. There's a Bianco today, it's called 'Obvius' and is pretty out there, in a good way, it needs an array of cheeses as an accompaniment, which sounds horrible. the Biskero Chianti is where it's at if you're doing anything fire related. Serve lightly chilled. No worries. Grab some here.
I'll leave you with some Chablis. That man Patrick Piuze again. Why do I mention him with startling regularity? Because I can't help buying the wines and the wines taste pretty good too. A restock has just arrived. Make it leave. Check them out here.
Remember, orders by 2:30pm to get that weekend satisfaction. Ta.
