From The Natty Boy

This is one of the largest fully biodynamic farms in Italy, with 500ha planted overall. The amount of work here cannot be understated, biodynamics is very labour intensive, particularly the soil preparation part, so it’s pretty remarkable to find something of this size in this day and age! They're based in Petaciatto, on the SE coast of Italy (don’t put it into google on a gloomy day, it’ll just make things worse!) and benefit from a wonderful, dry Mediterranean climate that’s perfect for minimal intervention farming. Dry means less disease pressure so less need for chemical intervention. They’ve got a real mix planted but this is mainly Falanghina, which as with quite a few native Italian white varieties really takes well to some skin maceration. I always find Italian varieties to be naturally more savoury and nutty than others, particularly French, and the skin maceration brings out more herbal edge and adds more fruit and texture to the mix. Salty, fruity and herbal with loads of quince, a bit of orange rind, alongside lovely pithy tannic grip in the mouth. Have this with some snacks!
