Gravner, 'Sivi' 2009

Gravner is based in the rolling Collio hills straddling the Italian/Slovenian border. In the vineyards he is practicing organic, with some biodynamic processes, including working according to the moon. He is one of the pioneers of the natural wine movement, and helped to put Friuli and orange wines on the map. Very few before him dared to give the indigenous white varieties long ferments with extended macerations, and further ageing to really allow the wines to develop was unheard of. The very pinnacle of skin-contact winemaking. Without his pioneering efforts, orange wine certainly would not be as ubiquitous as it is today.
