Camille is unoaked Malbec, produced in a young, fresh and modern style from this most traditional of appellations. Dark colour, with fresh acidity and juicy fruit flavours of cassis and black cherry.

Profile: Malbec typically produces deeply coloured wines with exuberant juiciness and a range of fruit and herbal character depending on where it is grown. It is one of the traditional Bordeaux varieties, and is the major grape in Cahors where it is known as Côt. Here it shows cassis and blackcurrant flavour and medicinal herbal freshness. It is often blended with higher tannin varieties to add fleshy structure. Malbec has been extremely successful in South America, responsible for bringing Argentinian wine to the global market. These wines show more freshness and vibrant fruit than their French coutnerparts, and are often barrel aged and long lived.

Chateau du Cedre
Château du Cèdre is widely regarded as the leading estate in Cahors. Today, Château du Cèdre comprises 27ha of vineyards planted at 4000-5500 vines per hectare on some of the most prized terroirs in Cahors, most notably the famous troisième terrasses. By 2002 they had eliminated all chemicals from the estate and by 2012 Château du Cèdre was certified organic. All the wines are now fermented with indigenous yeasts and sulphur additions are kept to an absolute minimum.

This is pretty widely regarded as the leading estate in Cahors, and was established in 1958 as a mixed farm with only 1ha of vines. This has now expanded to 27ha of vineyards planted on the most prized sites in Cahors. In 2012 the property was certified organic. All wines are fermented with indigenous yeasts and sulphur additions are kept to a minimum. Cahors is the original Malbec territory, although everyone now knows it as primarily coming from Argentina, and Chateau du Cedre has been at the forefront of re-elevating this region to it’s previously highly regarded standard. They’ve just put out a whole new range of zero sulphur wines, an indication of how committed they are to organic farming and minimal intervention winemaking. Camille is 100% Malbec from purchased fruit grown on the 1st and 2nd terraces close to the river. The fruit is 100% de-stemmed and crushed, then the juice given a 3-4 day cold soak, to extract colour and a little tannin, before being pressed and cool-fermented in stainless steel. Matured in concrete tanks for 6-8 months. It’s deliberately fruit forward and expressive, they’re trying to give a picture of variety and terroir, and doing a pretty good job of it!
