Vibrant in every sense! You're gonna get some bright red fruits and a hit of herbal bite here. It's moreish as hell and unfortunately all too limited. Get some whilst you can.
From The Natty Boy
I reckon I was most excited about finally receiving some stock of this. Continuously wanting to push the boundaries of South African wine, Johan Meyer decided to really dial it back in 2020 with this rose. This is organically farmed Cinsault from a vineyard grown on decomposed granite and shale soils. It was hand picked and pressed as whole bunches (the stems act as funnels for the grape juice meaning there is less colour extraction) into old French oak barrels for fermentation. It then matured in oak for 6 months on the lees before being racked and bottled without fining or filtration so there is sediment and cloud in this wine. Grapes were picked early so this comes in at just 11.5%abv which is very rare for South Africa. The fruit profile is decidedly sour in the most moreish way and there’s really good herbal edge which is a characteristic I love about high quality Provencal Rose (but is too often missing). Drink chilled, splash it about, doesn’t need any food, just some sunshine.
