Richly aromatic with lovely blue and red fruited flavours. Classy Beaujolais here!

Daniel Bouland is an outstanding producer based in the Morgon cru of Beaujolais, crafting wines with concentration and balance. ‘Bellevue’ is a small lieu-dix with high schist content in the soil, and is the earliest ripening of his vineyards. Rich aromatics of raspberry and cherries, a velvety palate with superb concentration and rippling tannins.

Producer: Daniel Bouland

Region/Country: Morgon, Beaujolais, France

Grape/s: Gamay

Production Method: Sustainable viticulture. Wild yeast fermentation, whole bunches in concrete vats. Aged in old foudre and bottled without fining and filtration.

Style: Brooding and fragrant, with great minerality and dark fruit purity

Pairing Suggestion: Game, poultry, grilled meats, vegetable dishes

Variety: Gamay

Profile: Gamay has been best known for producing fresh and fruity wines for early consumption. This is now changing, with the natural wine movement in Beaujolais, and more producers placing more emphasis on high quality production meaning Gamay has enjoyed a renaissance of sorts. Wines now show racy acidity alongside richness of fruit and clear minerality. Plantings are increasing outside of France, with producers in Australia, New Zealand and USA producing wines in a range of styles.

Classic Regions: Beaujolais, Loire Valley (France), Yarra Valley (Australia), Central Otago (New Zealand), USA
