A blended cuvée from plots within Montlouis. This is benchmark too. Generous yet taught, showing lovely fruit sweetness whilst maintaining a dry core and rasping acidity. Bloody hell, this is the stuff. Charming, I am well and truly charmed.

One of the icons of the Loire, and indeed French winemaking. Chidaine produces consistency unheard of in these northerly climes, a true master of Chenin Blanc. This is bright and pure, showing a gentle substance at the start but in the middle it shows a fine phenolic depth, a wonderfully broad substance, with rich tangerine and orange fruit, as well as a delicious if rather fine-boned mineral and acid backbone.

Variety: Chenin Blanc

Profile: Chenin Blanc is one of the great white varieties, responsible for many of the outstanding, long-lived wines of the Loire Valley. Chenin has naturally high acidity, and a range of honeyed citrus and orchard fruit flavours. It is produced in a wide range of styles, from dry and austere, to firm and powerful, through to lusciously sweet due to botrytis. Most Chenin is produced simialr to top quality German whites, with fermentation in stainless steel or large old oak, no oak ageing and no malolactic fermentation. It is also the major variety for Loire Valley sparkling wines.
