A terroir specific wine, focusing on the chalk rich soils of Oiry, famed Grand Cru Chardonnay territory. 65% was vinified and aged in cuve, with the remainder heading to 3-5 year old oak. 26 months on the lees. Aurélien Suenen is one of the most promising young upstarts in Champagne. His first cuvée, in 2009, was a blend of grapes from across his plots, but he soon narrowed his focus to produce a more terroir-specific bottling, before really drilling down into single vineyard cuvées in 2018. He’s a risk taker, using sulphur only at pressing, and letting malo happen if it wants to. He’s also reduced the dosage to allow each parcel’s personality to shine. This is classy stuff, even for Champagne.
