Light, savoury and textural rosé with great complexity. A great find, so moreish, crazy value. A bit more serious that your bog standard pink under £15, this guy deserves a meal, it's got that oomph about it. Brilliant stuff.
Juan Antonio Ponce began his winery in 2005, at the age of 23. He works biodynamically in the vineyard, and in the winery he takes a natural approach. Light and textured, with creamy tropical notes, blood orange, and gritty minerality, Las Cañadas is a beautiful new wine from this exciting Bodega.

Juan Antonio is a leading figure in biodynamic and natural winemaking in his native Cuenca. His vineyards are at high altitude for Jumilla, and sit on a combination of clay, limestone and sandstone soils. His vines are between 30 and 90 years old, and some of them are still planted on their own root stocks. In the winery, his ethos is to let the wine make itself and all the wines are fermented and aged in neutral oak to let each parcel reflect its own personality.
From The Natty Boy
A great young producer. I'd consider Spain to be the most exciting of the traditional European producing countries at present, they're generally moving away from the heavy, oaky styles of the past. There are a bunch of top young producers operating now, and Juan Antonio is one of them - these wines are incredible value for money. Mostly Bobal with a bit of Albillo (native white grape). Biodynamic farming and natural approach in the winery, yet the wines are supremely clean and refreshing. It's not quite pink, almost amber in colour, and the fruit profile changes considerably with air and temperature. Loads of strawberry and red berry fruit subsides to show more blood orange and clementine flavours and aromas. I particularly liked the spicy/peppery/herbal bite on this wine, we drank it at Brat with steak and it was a dream on a very hot summers day.
