Can Sumoi, La Rosa 2021

Can Sumoi is a 400-hectare estate at 600m of altitude in the Penedès, home to thirty hectares of old Montonega, Xarel-lo and Sumoll vines. The vines are planted in limestone soil, and the wines are certified organic with no additions or filtration. They’re also low alcohol (guilt free pleasure) and blessed with bracing acidity. Apparently Pepe Raventós had to go head to head with a chicken farmer to get his hands on the land. Thank God he won, I’d take a natty wine over fried chicken any day. Pepe already works biodynamically, and wants to go one step further – he’s currently developing an ethos called ‘biosynergy’, which seeks to encompass every part of the land in one sustainable philosophy.
