Puzelat is the master of Cheverny and this Pinot/Gamay wonder will have you absolutely purring for more. Musky, earthen and spicy. The fruits there too, in all it's red and blue berry laden glory. Tannin's a divine, acid on fire. Deft touch, stunning consumption.

 

Clos du Tue-Boeuf

I can remember trying these wines for the first time a few years ago and not really understanding them. Weird region, funny horse thing on the label, but came from an amazing importer so it was kind of a sure thing. Here I am a few years later and I can't get enough of the stuff. Clos du Tue-Boeuf is one of the most important natural domaines in the Loire Valley, which makes them one of the most important in France, and therefore the world. Certified organic since 96' the Puzelat family have inspired a myriad of other producers to head down the minimal intervention route. The wines have gained in finesse and character over the years. Grapes are harvested by hand, no additives are used during vinification, a tiny dose of SO2 is added at bottling if needed. Fermentations with wild yeasts are long, aging is primarily in used barrique or tronconic wooden vats. So much personality here, iconic drinking.
