Energetic upon opening with immediate aromas of grapefruit zest and citrus but given time, something incredibly complex reveals itself. Plenty of salinity, a bit of honey and a fistful of minerals really coming to the fore for those who can wait. ABV: 12%

Weingut DB Schmitt’s winery has been in the family for 230 years, and has been run for the last ten by Bianka and Daniel, who oversee 16 hectares in the Rheinhessen region. The winery is fully biodynamic and it one of only 80 producers in Germany to be Demeter certified. The Rheinhessen was historically known as an area for mass production, but Bianka and Daniel are at the forefront of a slew of young, innovative winemakers seeking to reduce yields and maximise the region’s unique terroir to make high quality, low intervention wines. Their ‘Natur’ line has zero sulphur additions.
