Red fruited and herb driven, with peppery spice and savoury backbone. Drinking superbly right now.
Vibrant Cabernet Franc from one of the Saumur’s most exciting producers. Fruit and herb driven, with peppery spice and savoury backbone. So delicious, it’s drinking amazingly now but will develop further undergrowth and savoury complexity with time.
Producer: Domaine Arnaud Lambert
Region/Country: Saumur, Loire Valley, France
Grape/s: Cabernet Franc
Production Method: Organic and Biodynamic farming. Wild yeast ferment in tank, ageing in older oak.
Style: Fragrant, herbal and spicy
Pairing Suggestion: Red meats, vegetarian dishes
Variety: Cabernet Franc
Profile: Far more subtle than Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc shows lovely fragrance and smooth texture making it very approachable in youth. It often displays a characteristic green pepper spiciness as well as leafy aromatics. It produces wines with lovely freshness, which perform very well with a slight chill. The best examples can be extremely long-lived, taking on vegetal, undergrowth character. Cabernet Franc is often an important part of classic Bordeaux blends.
Classic Regions: Loire Valley, Bordeaux (France), Australia, Bolgheri (Tuscany)
Domaine Arnaud Lambert
Arnaud Lambert is helping to discover the expression and diversity of soils and individual sites (terroirs) in the appellations of Saumur and Saumur-Champigny. The goal is to give expression to each individual terroir and realise each vineyard sites potential through organic viticulture (transitioning to bio-dynamic) and minimal intervention wine-making. 2017 marked an exciting transition for Arnaud’s estate when he united his cuvées from both Brézé (20ha) and Saint Cyr en Bourg (20ha) under one label: Domaine Arnaud Lambert. Arnaud feels that in the last few vintages he has really found the right balance and expression for the varieties planted in each site after working with these vineyards for 10+ years.
