Usually I see the word Viognier and run a mile... usually. There's a balance of Roussanne here, allied with some particularly old vine material and deft hand in the cellar. Here we go, restraint and elegance. Yes, there is some of that exuberant, almost tropical aromatic stuff going on, yet the palate is tight and mineral-laden. If you like new world chardy, you could be on here. ABV: 13%

Established in 1993, Hervé Souhaut’s Domaine Romaneaux-Destezet comprises two ancient vineyards (5ha) which sit opposite the sainted hill of Hermitage in the northern Rhône Valley. He vinifies using whole bunches and semi-carbonic maceration to produce lighter, more finessed, less aggressively tannic red wines than is the norm for the region. The result is wines that are delicious in their youth, whilst also boasting enough structure and acidity to age beautifully - everyone’s a winner!
