Côte du Puy is the most famous climat of Morgon, with rich structure and density more indicative of the proximity of the Northern Rhone. Profile: Gamay has been best known for producing fresh and fruity wines for early consumption. This is now changing, with the natural wine movement in Beaujolais, and more producers placing more emphasis on high quality production meaning Gamay has enjoyed a renaissance of sorts. Wines now show racy acidity alongside richness of fruit and clear minerality. Plantings are increasing outside of France, with producers in Australia, New Zealand and USA producing wines in a range of styles.

Domaine Mee Godard

Mee Godard moved to the Beaujolais and launched her domaine in 2013 with three very special climats of Morgon: Corcelette, Grand Cras, and Côte du Py. Since then she has had one goal in mind: to make vin de garde from great terroirs. Domaine Mee Godard allows us a glimpse of the future of the Beaujolais region at its best. It’s a small Domaine of six hectares of vineyards, mostly located in the sumptuous Morgon appellation and with a small plot in Moulin à Vent. The uncompromising attitude established by Mee, coupled with very old vines across the estate (60 years of age on average) produces state of the art, profound, complex wines with lots of character.
