Far from a recent fad, the wines produced back in the day were all skin contact variations. More often than not a fruit salad blend of red and white, all macerated and aged in whatever the favoured vessel of the period. The best skin contact wines of the modern era are a continuation of this, produced in a way that develops tannin and texture rather than exotic colour for colours-sake.
