Alex Foillard, Brouilly 2020

Alex Foillard is the son of legendary member of the Morgon ‘Gang of Four’, Jean Foillard. He’s been involved in the family winemaking business since he was a youngster, helping his dad out with the grape picking during harvest. After studying agriculture in Montpellier, then viticulture and oenology in Beaune, he interned in Japan and Australia before returning to the Beaujolais in 2015 and getting straight to work. He purchased his own vineyards in Brouilly and Côte de Brouilly aged just twenty-four, bringing variety to the family cellars which were previously chocka with Morgon and a barrel or two of Fleurie. He worked his vineyards organically and produced his first cuvée in 2016. Though he diversified the terroirs represented in the Foillard cellars, he has continued working to his father’s principles – minimum intervention, to ensure the final product speaks to the nuances of the land it came from.
