Domaine Georges Descombes

We are unbelievably pumped to be bringing you the wines of the legendary Georges Descombes, unofficial fifth member of the likewise legendary 'Gang of Four'. Georges is located in Vermont, a teeny hamlet in Villié-Morgon, and in his teens worked alongside his vigneron father in the vines, as well as spending time working with a local bottling company. On his travels hopping from estate to estate, he had the chance to try a bottle of Lapierre, and it cemented his goal of making wines of exceptional purity and elegance, a goal he went on to achieve pretty spectacularly. When he took over in 1988, he immediately began converting the vineyards to organic practices, and these days he oversees 15.5 hectares spread across five AOCs. All his cuvées are made using whole bunches, just a tiny dose of sulphur at bottling and only a light filtration for the young vine cuvées. Georges likes to let his wines hang out in bottle before releasing, up to a year later than most of his colleagues. These are truly stunning expressions of Beaujolais, and punch way above their price point.
