Possa, U Neigru 2021

Possa is the inspiring project from local legend Heydi Bonanini, just one of a mere dozen who continues to work the back-breaking slopes of the Cinque Terre, a world heritage site. The long standing wine making tradition has been slowly dying out with the vineyards too laborious and expensive to work for many locals. But Heydi believes deeply in these traditions, as well as the local varieties that he thinks are well worth saving. We happen to agree. These wines are some of the most unique and captivating that I’ve tried. Wines that scream of their origin. The sea literally meets the first row of vines at the bottom of these insanely steep cliffs and still to this day, as was and is tradition, these first few rows are harvested by hand via small boat. This painstaking approach extends to all plant life that is teeming on these fertile cliffs. Biodiversity is not just an aim here, it is the way of life. Just by googling this place, you get a sense of why these wines taste as they do.
