Rosé Champagne isn't usually my bag, but this one is proper. JM experimented with both permitted methods for making it (maceration and blending white and red wines) before deciding to use both to make this stonking, unique bottling. Extra Brut rosé is pretty rare, giving winemakers often up the dosage to cover up other imbalances, but not necessary here. This is lightly floral and subtly red fruited, creamy with a tiny touch of tannin coming from the blended still Pinot. A wine that'll change your mind about pink Champagne, like it did for me. ABV: 12.5%

Jean-Marc Sélèque is located in Pierry, about 4km from Epernay in Champagne, and the domaine produces around 90,000 bottles a year. Jean-Marc is the second generation of vignerons at the estate, which began as a farm in the 1920s when his grandfather moved to Champagne from Poland - farming was more profitable in those days than winemaking. JM's father started producing wine in the mid '70s, and JM took over in 2008 with the aim of overhauling viticulture and making more terroir-focused wines.
