Momento, Grenache Noir 2020

Momento is the solo project of Mareliese Niemann, who cut her teeth at Beaumont Family Wines for seven years, sharing cellar space with Crystallum and Thorne & Daughters. After working with Grenache in Priorat in 2010, she returned to South Africa determined to seek out parcels of old vines to make her own elegant, classy bottlings. She’s a minimalist winemaker, using indigenous yeast for fermentation, manual punching down and maturing in old French oak to retain the purity of the fruit. She aims to work with varieties that work well in the natural environs of South Africa, Grenache being a grape that thrives in the drier years. Have a go at these, they’re truly something to behold.
