100% Sangiovese and 100% delicious. Spontaneous fermentation with no added SO2. The fruit here comes off two sites. One is lower altitude, more clay-dominant soils and always produces a generous, welcoming expression. The other is higher up and planted on limestone, bringing tension. Both are farmed biodynamically. Doesn't see any oak, and all the better for it. I have so much love for this bottling. Purity and pleasure.

Montesecondo began in 2000, when Silvio Messana returned to his native Chianti after years spent living and working in New York. The estate was originally designed to grow and sell grapes in bulk, and comprises 10 hectares of Sangiovese, Canaiolo, Colorino and Cabernet. Silvio is passionate about biodynamics and wants to move away from modernised, generic Chianti styles. His wines are fresh, crisp, and sharp with acidity – classics, in the best way.
