Never lets you down. Powerful stuff, not your typical Mosel Rizza. The depth of fruit on show here is bonkers, all kept in check by an acid line so ripping you'll want to see the dentist. Pretty close to perfection. Fruit for Schieferterassen comes from a mixture of younger vines, planted on ridiculously steep slopes. ABV: 13.5%

Working crazy steep slate slopes in the Lower Mosel Valley, Reinhard Löwenstein is a man in pursuit of harnessing good “energy”. So much so that he plays music and soothing running water sounds to his wines during vinification. The results are good, like, very good. Löwenstein makes dry single-vineyard Rieslings of incredible power and tension. Adding 10-20% botrytised grapes only adds to the complexity and intensity of flavour. His aim is to express the character of each vineyard’s particular slate-based soil, which he is evidently nailing. All I can really say is that you literally have to try these wines, they’re electric.
