My first experience of this wine was drinking a 9 year old 2005, mind blown. Got it from Antic in Lyon, probably the best wine shop I've set foot in. It's been too long. Blockbuster, and built to last. I'd be putting this down for a short nap while tucking into some of the younger vine Morgon, but each to their own. Collector's item. ABV: 13.5%

Jean-Paul Thévenet, aka one of the famous ‘Gang of Four’ of Beaujolais, works super old, low-yielding vines in Morgon – we’re talking 70 years plus. The vines are grown organically and the grapes are fermented with natural yeasts, usually without any sulfur. Jean-Paul works alongside his son, Charly, to produce fine, perfumed wines that express the ground they came from.
