Maxime Magnon’s been all over the place – Burgundian by birth, he went first to Beaujolais to learn under Jean Foillard before going west to Languedoc to be mentored by Didier Barral. He started his own project in 2002, purchasing eleven hectares of primarily Carignan vines on the slopes of Hautes-Corbières. His training in other areas of France is evident the second you open one of his bottles – they’re elegant and understated, not the overworked, heavy-handed wines that are sometimes associated with the area.
